I’m a composer. I make up music. Every so often, it’s because I have an idea and simply need to do something about it. At other times I write music if someone asks me to, for a particular occasion or group, for a church service, or as incidental music for theatre.
The more restrictions and requirements that are given, the more interesting the project:
A piece for cello and piano (about barnacles) using only the open strings
A multi-movement work for chorus, brass and percussion setting the text of the 'Benedicite'
Three pieces for wind quintet with familiar tunes hidden in the music, commisioned as a present for fellow musicians
A work for 3 string orchestras and 2 Taiko drummers, to be performed in a cave in Cornwall
A four-movement work for eight solo voices, using a collage of texts taken from weather folklore.
